My Flipped Learning Lesson

I usually repeat some lessons a lot. It is usually a one-on-one kind of interaction. I don't discount the need to be repetitive because students really benefit from the quick lesson. But sometimes, I think I could record some of these tips so students could watch them as they need a quick tutorial on something. Google Advanced Search is one of those quick tutorials.

  1. Sonja,
Great idea with the tutorials! Could you get the videos to show up on the "Home Page" on the library computers? Every time the internet is accessed the videos would show up on the first screen. I imagine your one-on-one time is beneficial in building relationships with your students, but the videos would allow students to get their questions answered if you're already helping another student.

    1. I think as the list of tutorials grow, they should all live on the library home page. I also thought about having bookmarks with QR Codes with the most requested tutorials.

  2. Sonja, I could see your tutorials being very helpful in your position! You could still teach one-one-one the first time around if you don't want to lose that opportunity, but you could have a collection of your tutorials for reference throughout the rest of the year. Have you thought about tutorials for teachers too? I've had students come back from the library with questions about a technology they learned to use at library, but I don't know much about the site. Having access to tutorials on resources they've learned about would give me some background knowledge to work towards understanding and helping them.

    1. That's exactly how I envision utilizing them. I can cover only so much during class library visits. This could be an extension or review. Also, I want to show kids the basics how to use information databases before the library visit and teach the more advanced functions and options of databases when they actually come as a class to the library. I'd want the teachers to direct the students to the site where all of the tutorials live. It would be a great way to deliver library services.
